About Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is not a mysterious trance often depicted in movies or stage shows. In reality, it is a state of heightened focus and absorption where our consciousness becomes singularly directed. This allows us to tune out distractions and become focussed on our thoughts, perceptions, or experiences.

In a therapeutic setting we utilize the state of hypnosis to help you reach into your subconscious and change unwanted habits, behaviors and emotions, discover inner resources and creativity you might not realize you have.

Hypnotherapy has been used for over 200 years to help patients through surgeries, cure alcoholics of their addictions, help individuals cope with past and present traumas and get their lives back on course.

Ten things you should know about hypnosis and clinical hypnotherapy

  1. You are not giving up control to the hypnotherapist. No one can be hypnotised against their will or be forced to do something they otherwise wouldn't.
  2. A clinical hypnotherapist is a not a stage magician trying to impress someone but rather someone keen on helping you find a solution or path to progress. So they are not going to make you do or say anything embarrassing even if they could. And they are usually quite friendly, regular people.
  3. In reality in clinical hypnosis, the therapist is your guide and not your controller.
  4. There is no danger that you will go into an unrecoverable trance.
  5. Your mind is aware during hypnosis, it's just moving to a state of deep relaxation. You are not likely to reveal deep secrets you don't want to share with the hypnotherapist.
  6. You might not remember that you were in a trance.
  7. Daydreaming and hypnosis are different even though when daydreaming you might be in an ordinary trance, removing yourself from reality. Hypnosis is a guided journey.
  8. Hypnotherapists are not strange creatures that have inherited a gift. Rather they are trained professionals.
  9. You can even hypnotise yourself!
  10. Hypnosis has been successful in curing a wide range of problems from small habit or behavioural changes to life changing concerns.
